Erik Scroggins, LEED AP

Erik has been involved in the AEC industry for 25 years. During that time, he has worked with Engineering, Architecture, and Construction Management firms. Erik has been with The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company for the last 15 years as a Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Manager.

Some of Erik’s past VDC projects include the Google Data Centers in Council Bluffs, IA (2017–2020) and the UPMC Hospital in Oakland, PA (2021–2023). Erik is currently involved with VDC efforts for the Cleveland Cavaliers Global Peak Performance Center (CC GPPC).

Erik will present on the Virtual Build process at CC GPPC. The purpose of the Virtual Build effort is for designers, trades, and Whiting-Turner to collectively review building models, looking for opportunities to mitigate issues and improve collaboration, communication, and efficiency among all stakeholders. An important aspect of this endeavor is to utilize technology from a practical standpoint to enhance the construction process.

Key topics of the Virtual Build process at CC GPPC:

  1. Centralized Communication: Using Revizto to document discussions and decisions alongside models/drawings.
  2. Real-Time Collaboration: Publishing models from native software into Revizto’s common database environment.
  3. Document Management: Superimposing contract documents over the model for better visualization of the build.
  4. Task Management: Utilizing Revizto Issue Tracking to organize tasks, set deadlines, and track progress.
  5. Reporting and Analytics: Generating reports and analyzing project data using the information within issues.
  6. Integrating Information: Combining point cloud data with models for easy navigation on basic hardware like iPads.
  7. Mobile Accessibility: Leveraging Revizto for mobile updates and field team collaboration.
  8. Installation Tracking: Assigning custom properties to model geometry to visually track installation progress.
  9. Quantity Takeoffs: Using Assemble software to generate material quantities for estimating purposes.
