The 2024 NAWIC Cleveland Board Installation was a memorable and deeply inspiring event, marking the transition of leadership with both tradition and emotion. This year, President Jessica VanGelder was honored with the chapter’s original 1968 President’s Pin, a symbol of the strength and continuity of leadership within NAWIC Cleveland. In a touching moment, the pin was passed to Jessica by her daughter, Jylianne Matejovsky, bringing tears to Jessica’s eyes as she accepted the honor.
The installation ceremony was led by Past President Debbie Lesar, who delivered an inspirational message that resonated with all in attendance. Debbie’s words highlighted the importance of staying committed to the chapter’s mission and remembering the impact of strong leadership. Reflecting on the qualities of a true leader, she encouraged the new board to “be present, show empathy, and seek opportunities to help others grow.” She reminded everyone that leadership is not just about personal success but about lifting others and creating a supportive environment for all.
Debbie also acknowledged the outgoing board members for their hard work and dedication over the past year, reinforcing that every step forward is a collective effort. The event formally welcomed the new board members, who were each installed with a pledge to continue advancing NAWIC Cleveland’s mission of empowering women in construction.
Following the ceremony, Jessica shared heartfelt closing remarks, and the event concluded with a warm gathering where members, friends, and families celebrated together. This year’s installation not only symbolized the passing of leadership but also reaffirmed the chapter’s commitment to growth, camaraderie, and community impact.
